Year 6 into 7 Transition

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to The Cavendish School. Here at The Cavendish School we pride ourselves on providing the very best pastoral care to help ease the worries of moving from primary to secondary school. The induction process will begin in the summer term with a number of early intervention sessions to aid a smooth transition which are outlined below.

Primary Visits

These will commence in June where keys members of staff as well as current Year 7s will visit our feeder primary schools and speak with those students transferring to Cavendish in September. This will be an opportunity for Cavendish staff to provide information to the Year 6 students as well answering any questions they may have. The Year 7s will be able to provide a real life report on their first year at Cavendish.

Year 6 students and parents information evening

All Year 6 parents and students are invited to attend an information evening towards the end of June 2017, where the Headteacher will welcome you to the school. This will be an opportunity to meet key members of staff and to ask any initial questions parents may have. The school uniform suppliers Stevensons, and Price & Buckland who supply the PE kit, will be present so Cavendish uniform & kit can be viewed, tried on and ordered.

If Year 6 students are unable to attend the information evening due to school residential trips parents are still encouraged to attend.

Year 6 induction day

Held on Thursday 12th July 2018, all Year 6 students joining Cavendish in September will attend in their primary school uniform for the whole day (8:35am - 3:15pm) and experience a range of lessons in different curriculum areas. Students will be allocated a tutor group and will spend the day working with their fellow tutees. Students will need a packed lunch and or money for a school dinner, the school canteen will also be open at break for the students to purchase snacks and a drink. Students should register at the start of the day in the Main Hall.

Taster sessions

Curriculum areas run a range of taster sessions throughout June and July, after school 3.45 – 4.45pm, where Cavendish teachers deliver fun engaging ‘taster’ sessions from their subject area. Parents/Carers will receive a letter nearer the time with information on how to book these sessions – this will involve contacting Elke Torris in the school office to ‘book’ their child onto their chosen session.

Summer School

Our highly successful Summer School runs during the first week of the Summer holidays where students take part in a wide spectrum of fun activities ranging from days out, science experiments, Technology, Music and PE which are designed to encourage teamwork, communication and develop initiative skills.

Year 7 informal parents evening

In late September 2017 we invite our new parents in for an informal parents evening, this provides an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s form tutor and other key members of staff.  We provide refreshments and the chance to chat with other parents, staff will be available to answer any questions parents may have.
