The Cavendish School Sixth Form provides an exciting, stimulating and challenging environment for learning. Results have significantly improved over the last 5 years and we aim to keep improving every year. This progress was recognised in the 2015 Ofsted inspection where the Sixth Form was graded as "Good" noting that, "students make good progress in the sixth form, which is well organised".

Cavendish is a welcoming school, with a proud reputation for strong community relationships both in school and outside. We have our own separate Post 16 Study Centre where tutorials, lessons and assemblies take place. The study area has 25 computers with a working area, the common room and café are available at break and lunchtimes for relaxing which is led by year 13 students with all funds going towards their prom.

We are mindful of the transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 and have a team of Tutors and Learning Mentors to support the students. Indeed, this is highlighted as a key strength in the school. The 2015 Ofsted report highlights that, “Students joining the sixth form feel well informed about what is expected of them"; "The school provides a good range of opportunities to prepare students for the next stages in their careers or education".

Sixth form staff and learning mentors work hard to raise students’ aspirations. We are proud of the role our sixth form students take in developing these skills such as leadership projects and mentoring younger students, as well as their progress towards their academic qualifications. All sixth form students are expected to participate in these enrichment activities.

The Cavendish Sixth Form belongs to the West Dacorum Partnership for Learning which is a consortium of 4 schools that includes The Hemel Hempstead School, John F Kennedy Catholic School and Kings Langley School. The Partnership provides a wide range of choice, offering courses in a variety of combinations. The schools in the partnership have a common timetable and transport is provided for students who need to move between schools at break-time.

The school is also part of the Dacorum Strategic Area Partnership that consists of the four West Dacorum schools, three East Dacorum schools (Adeyfield, Astley Cooper and Longdean) and Tring and Ashlyns.

Sixth Form Science

Ofsted say:

"The sixth form is well led and managed. As a result, students are very positive about the opportunities they receive to develop both academically and in their skills to take up further education or employment."

"Achievement in the sixth form is good and improving well. Attainment on entry to Year 12 is below the average found nationally, while the overall results per student have risen over the past three years to be close to the national average. Students therefore now achieve well in the great majority of academic and work-related subjects. Success rates at A level are improving and are now above the national average."

"Progress seen in written work in English is much stronger for current pupils than in the past, and this is supported by the school's reliable assessment evidence in this large entry subject."
