Cavendish prides itself on every student reaching their full potential. As part of the full programme of provision, the school places importance on preparing students for the world of work.

“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re probably right” - Henry Ford

Cavendish School provides a programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance:

Structured, interactive lessons in class groups, led by a teacher, expert or visitor, based on a lesson plan or objective aimed at the whole group.

Timetabled, directed lessons with group objective

Individual sessions for focussed discussion

Data and facts from a range of sources including printed material and websites; where and how to access help and advice; information on opportunities, events and progression routes in education, training and work.  For examples, see the Blogspot.

Small group or one to one work to help students understand and interpret information and find answers; help students apply information to their own situation; identify needs and signpost or refer students who may need more in-depth guidance.

One to one work to help students understand themselves and their needs, explore opportunities, confront barriers, resolve dilemmas, develop new perspectives and skills, make progress and achieve their aspirations.

Our programme has three aims for students:

Developing yourself through career and work-related education

This encourages you to develop self-belief, self-determination and a commitment to improve

Learning about careers and the world of work

This enables you to widen your horizons

Developing your career management and employability skills

This equips you with the ‘wherewithal’ to realise your heightened aspirations

Our partners

We are proud to have the support of many valued contacts outside school. These include:

Youth Connexions Hertfordshire

We have a contract with Youth Connexions Hertfordshire to provide guidance services including qualified, impartial, confidential guidance to students.
All year 11 students are offered an appointment (Sept-Easter), other students can request an appointment, or visit at drop-in times.

Herts Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Every student in year 10 has the opportunity for a week of work experience, organised with the support of Herts Chamber.

Ofsted say:

"Students receive good support on career choices from external advisers who are readily available in school, and through work experience placements throughout their time in school."
