Feedback Policy for Design and Technologypdf document

The Technology, Food & Nutrition Faculty at The Cavendish School is committed to providing an exciting, creative and challenging curriculum to all students. Design Technology covers a wide variety of Curriculum areas, these include; Food, Graphics, Computer Aided Design and Manufacture, Textiles and Product Design. Our facilities include a Laser cutter and Vinyl cutter, 2 3D printers, 2 designated food technology rooms, 3 graphic skills rooms, 1 textiles room and 2 comprehensive workshops.

The Technology, Food & Nutrition Faculty aims to allow students to combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking, enabling them to design, make and evaluate products. We aim to equip students with the skills to think creatively, be socially, morally and environmentally aware and solve problems as individuals, in pairs and as team members. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop their confidence in using a wide range of tools and equipment.

As a Faculty we contribute to the whole school policy of providing students with a broad and balanced curriculum which will equip them with skills that they can use in the future and prepare them for today’s world of rapidly changing technology.

All students at Key Stage 3 spend two lessons per week (2 x 60 minutes) within Technology, Food & Nutrition. Students study the curriculum areas through a carousel system over the school year.
All year 7 students will complete the department baseline test at the beginning of year 7. This will be used to give the department an end of KS3 target.

Accommodation and Resources

We enjoy the use of 8 specialist teaching/workshop spaces with overhead projectors in most rooms alongside interactive whiteboards. Each teacher also has their own laptop. There is plenty of scope for quality display work; indeed this is something we actively encourage. Readily accessible to the Faculty are a number of computer suites to cater for all focus areas. The Faculty is equipped with up to date machinery and resources including a recently purchased laser cutter available for use across the Faculty.
