Cavendish Staff v Cavendish Alumni Cricket Match
Friday 3 July 2015, Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club
3 July saw the popular return of the annual staff vs ex-students cricket match at Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club. Glorious sunshine, a plush outfield and a flat batting track met the two captains at the toss which was won by Charlie Hoskins for the students who elected to bat in front of an ever growing crowd. Kai Lewis and Alex Dukes saw off the first couple of overs comfortably enough before Mr Still and Mr Hopkin combined to run Kai out. Alex was then bowled off his pads from a great ball by Mr Green and suddenly the students were in trouble. Ed Canham and Amjad Khan then steadied the ship pushing the score towards 150. This was further augmented by a few blows at the end by Lewis Boughton, and Rory Fraser leaving the staff a target of 172.
Mr Sudbery and Mr Still gave the staff a great start in reply, striking a few early boundaries before Mr Hopkin and Mr Calverley put in a great partnership that almost saw the staff home. Despite Mr Richardson and Mr Easthorpe doing their best to distract the opposition with some sledging, the students were victorious by 15 runs.
A great time was had by all and it was fantastic to see so many ex-students, most of whom have done very well since leaving school. This was a great way to start off the new Alumni society and we look forward to future events.
