The Cavendish School Ethos and Values

“Committed to achieving our personal best”

The Cavendish School is proud to be an all-ability community school.  Within a safe, supportive and challenging learning environment we want our students to aim high and be happy. We seek to meet all their academic, cultural and emotional needs.

The school’s main aim is to develop our students’ full potential, helping them mature into successful, caring, resilient and respectful young people.

All members of our very welcoming school community, whether students, staff or Governors, are “committed to achieving our personal best”.  Therefore,

  • We expect high standards of behaviour, attendance, appearance, effort and commitment of all members of that community.
  • We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, expert teaching, valuable enrichment activities and high quality careers advice; these help students develop confidence, independence and a love of learning, and prepare them well for adult life.
  • We provide a high level of support for all students, whatever their talents or ability, in the pursuit of their chosen goals.
  • We offer outstanding pastoral care so that our students engage with the curriculum, make good progress and enjoy what the school has to offer.
  • We establish strong partnerships with parents/carers and the wider community.

We are proud of our students, and recognise their effort and individual achievements by regularly celebrating their successes in all aspects of school life. We remember our original connection with the prestigious Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge and are inspired by its record of discovery and innovation.

British Values

At The Cavendish School, we are dedicated to promoting values which ensure that our students develop a strong sense of social and moral responsibility. We prepare our students for life in Modern Britain by developing an understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

These values underpin the work we do and are promoted at various times throughout the school year, extending beyond the classroom with a wide range of visits and experiences.

As School Leaders and Governors, we are responsible for providing a curriculum which:

  • Is broad and balanced, complies with statutory requirements and provides a wide range of subjects which prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in Modern Britain.
  • Actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance.
  • Promotes tolerance of and respect for people of all faiths, no faith and of different cultures through the effective spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils.
  • Is supported by a well-rounded programme of assemblies which offer clear guidance on what is right and wrong, with opportunities for students to reflect.
